Reading is such a critical component in children’s success in school and life. Learning to read is a complex process that requires teaching skills and strategies. Caregivers play an important role in helping children become self-confident and motivated learners and readers. So when and how do we start the process for infants and toddlers? It doesn’t start at kindergarten! Language and literacy skills begins at birth through everyday loving interactions. This workshop will explore the steps necessary to build the skills but more importantly to do it in a way that is fun, interactive, positive and rewarding for everyone. We will also discuss the “big five” essential components of effective reading instruction according to the 2000 National Reading Panel Report.
