Jefferson County Librarians will lead an exploration of techniques to enhance reading aloud opportunties during your day to further engage young children and inspire them to become readers.

Adult will explore elements of quality literature for young children

• Adult will become familiar with resources available at the Jefferson County Public Library
•  Adult will learn how to select developmentally appropriate literature for children ages 0-5 years old
• Adult will observe demonstration of appropriate reading for children including pre-management of reading expectations (i.e. posturing, setting the stage, listening expectations)
•  Adult will observe and discuss strategies for maintaining interest in stories through emotional expression, pausing, surprises, voice tone, etc.
•  Adult will learn how to engage children in listening to stories from a picture book
•  Adult will brainstorm activities and props that support interest in reading
