Kids notice and talk about differences beginning in preschool. They develop positive identity through open conversations, supportive relationships and by seeing that diversity is appreciated and valued. The Library supports caregivers and kids through books, Story Times and programs that allow an expanded view of the world and people who are different from them.
The conversation will be led by Stuart Sanks, a third grade teacher, who created a drag character Shirley Delta Blow, and Chelsea Pearson-Vibert, MA, LPC, clinical team lead with the Colorado Spirit at Jefferson Center for Mental Health. They will talk about how kids develop positive identities and the ways in which family and community members can support them.
Learn how parents, caregivers, and educators can encourage the joy of reading while supporting kids’ awareness of differences and an appreciation for individuality, which contribute to forming their identities.
