At a Closing the Hunger Gap conference in 2015, in an open space workshop on Race and Privilege in the Emergency Food System, attendees created the following statement: Racial injustice and privilege are at the root of economic injustice. Economic injustice is the root cause of hunger. The only way to end hunger is to end racial and economic injustice.
As part of this continued analysis, CTHG is excited to host this conversation with Bread for the World on the role racial equity plays in addressing systemic racism to end hunger.
This webinar will help the audience understand the correct definition of racial equity (including the differences between racial equity and diversity, and the role racial equity has in addressing systemic racism to end hunger). In addition, the webinar will provide direct examples of “HOW” racial equity can be successfully applied to policies, program design and service implementation. Highlights will be featured from the Racial Equity and Hunger Report (which provides detailed ways for how racial equity can be applied to SNAP, WIC and various Child Nutrition Programs). After reviewing these concrete examples, the webinar will offer how to use the Racial Equity Methodology Tool, so audience members can start applying racial equity within the policies people design/support, and the programs they implement.
